About Dr. Keri & The Staff

Dr. Keri Barnes :: Linnea McCarthy

Dr. Keri Barnes DC, DACNB is a well-respected   Chiropractic Neurologist that has successfully treated   thousands of patients with a variety of conditions ranging   from complex neurological conditions to everyday aches   and pains.

Dr. Barnes is originally from Washington State, where she  did her undergraduate education in Basic Science and  Women's Literature Studies. In 2001, she obtained her  Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West in the Bay Area, where she graduated with the highest award given by the institution, Clinical Excellence Award. This is given to one student of the graduating class who exhibits excellence in patient care and treatment. She was also awarded several recognitions from LWCC such as completing the Excellence in Care and Honors Intern programs.

While Dr. Barnes was a student at LWCC she also took part in additional outside internships at several top Bay Area Chiropractic clinics, one of those being Azzolino Chiropractic Neurology Group. Dr Azzolino, the clinic director, is the current Vice President of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and was awarded the 1999 Chiropractic Neurologist Award.

After LWCC, Dr. Barnes completed a three year postdoctoral neurology course through the Carrick Institute of Neurology. She successfully completed the examinations leading to the certification of Diplomat of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board in February of 2006. The Diplomat Program in Neurology Certification is awarded by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certification Agencies (NCCA), the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The American Chiropractic Neurology Board is the only specialty certification agency for the Chiropractic Profession that is fully accredited by NCCA. NCCA's standards exceed the requirements set forth by the American Psychological Association and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The National Organization for Competency Assurance is the leader in setting quality standards for credentialing organizations. Dr. Barnes is one of 500 worldwide.

Dr. Barnes moved to Anderson, California, in 2001 with her husband, Todd, and their two spoiled dogs, Stevie and Redd. There she opened her own Chiropractic clinic, which has evolved into one of the most successful Chiropractic clinics in all of Shasta County. Dr. Barnes is the only Chiropractic Neurologist between Sacramento and northern Oregon. She has patients who travel as far as Nevada, Grants Pass, the California Coast, and Sacramento to seek her expertise. In addition to serving her own patients, she also provides second opinions for several other Doctors of Chiropractic. Dr. Barnes has also taught many public classes on "Child Abuse and the Effects on the Brain" and "Fall Prevention in the Elderly."

Dr. Barnes is also very involved her community. She serves as an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, even serving on the Board of Directors. She does an annual "Christmas in July" food drive in which the office raised over 1,000 pounds of food for the local food bank. She acts as the medical advisor in the local Dystonia Support Group, which meets monthly in her office. She received the New Business Award by the Chamber of Commerce in 2002. She was also awarded the Grace Bell Award in 2004, which is awarded to a successful businesswoman who volunteers her efforts to help better the community. She was also recognized by the Record Searchlight in 2005 as Businesswoman of the Year. (Article available here)

Dr. Barnes currently works in the office full time specializing in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various musculoskeletal disorders, such as balance disorders, movement disorders, chronic pain syndromes, neuropathies, headaches, and migraines. Dr. Barnes is also currently taking advanced courses on the East Coast through the Carrick Institute of Neurology in Vestibular Rehabilitation to aid in the treatment of vertigo, neurological vision problems, abnormal eye movements, and balance disorders.

Shasta Family Chiropractic is also on the cutting edge of medical technology. Dr. Barnes recently purchased a highly advanced machine (CAPS) in which balance can be determined with a percent of stability and adaptability within an error range of less than .0002. This enables the doctor and the patient to see if the treatment is effective and to what percentage of improvement. The CAPS machine can detect a balance disorder before the symptoms are even apparent to the patient. She is one of five on the west coast utilizing this specialized computer software and force platform. Dr. Barnes also utilizes Micro Medical Real Eyes. These are goggles which the patient wears during vestibular ocular testing (VOR) in which nastagmus (abnormal eye movements) can be visualized and recorded. This also aids in treatment of several movement disorders.

Dr. Barnes has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education classes in Neurology as well as Chiropractic techniques. She truly evaluates the patient's extensive history, physical, neurological, and chiropractic exams to create an individual care plan that is specific to each patient's individual heath concerns. This type of approach to health ensures that each patient gets just what they need. Dr. Barnes' primary concern is to assist patients in their pursuit of health, happiness, and full expression of their individual humanism.
